He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and He drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.
Please introduce yourselves to Fr. Michael or Deacon Joe so that we can better serve you. We hope that you will become involved with our parish, and we look forward to your presence and participation each week.

Grade 9 Sunday, Feb. 26th at 5:00pm Mass
The students from these grades will be: Altar servers, Collectors, Gift bearers, Greeters, and Readers of the 1st and 2nd readings, intercessions, and psalm. With your help encouraging the students to participate, we hope to see this become a more permanent part of our religious education program. Thank you!
Next Saturday, February 11th, our grade 2 students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. We ask that you keep these youngsters in your prayers on this day and the days ahead as they continue to prepare for their First Holy Communion.

The 1st Annual Soup and Chili Cook-off was a great success!
There were 23 delicious entries tasted by over 120 guests. The confirmation students provided the fantastic desserts and were the servers and crew for the event.
Thank you to everyone who donated and participated in the cook-off. A special thank you to Lisa Donahue and Kristin Kreckler for overseeing this event and to all our chefs:
Maureen Campbell, Kristin Kreckler, John Donahue, Tracey Hallman, Bethany Colburn, Eileen Hall, Mary Jo O'Day, Ana Robertson, Jim Wilder, Dorothy Frantzen, Enrico Pasquale, Emily & Shannon Williamson, Lynne Cataldo, Jennifer Turpel, Ginny Ennis, Jane LaChance, Julie Tejeda, Hayley Kreckler, Beth Pfannensteil, Diane Pray, and Paulette Hurley.
“Best soup” as voted by the tasters went to Enrico Pasquale, and “Best chili” was won by Diane Pray!
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

See the enclosed letter in today's bulletin regarding the outrageous decision by the federal government regarding health insurance plans.
To correct the threats to religious liberty and rights of conscience posed by Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act has been introduced in Congress (H.R. 1179, S. 1467). This measure will ensure that those who participate in the health care system “retain the right to provide, purchase, or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs and moral convictions.” It is more important than ever that Members of Congress be urged to co-sponsor this measure. For co-sponsors, please check H.R. 1179 and S.1467 at: thomas.loc.gov.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after the 7:00am Mass on Friday, February 3rd, and continue all day and night into Saturday, February 4th, concluding with Benediction at 7:45am, Mass at 8:00am.
We are fortunate to have so many individuals who commit themselves to a particular hour or half hour so that there is always someone present with Our Lord. All are invited to make a visit during this time. For more info, contact Lucille Silva at 508-824-7345.
We continue to receive donations to the Annual Collection/ Anniversary Capital Campaign.
As I mentioned in my letter, we will designate the proceeds from this year’s collection for the debt incurred for interior renovation of the Church (along with the replacement of the exterior doors and the widening of the front door). We thank those individuals who have contributed so generously to this important collection. For those who have not yet done so, I would ask that you give careful consideration to this request. We will give the final report in the next few weeks.
May God bless you for your generosity.
Fr. Michael

Coffee and donuts are available in the Parish Center after the 8:00am and 9:30am Masses. It’s a nice way to renew friendship and meet new friends. We are grateful to Louis & Marianne Miller, and Nancy Chase & Marie Wahl for their help this weekend.

The St. Vincent De Paul food pantry has been seriously depleted by the Christmas baskets and many calls for food in January. What we need most is cereal, peanut butter, boxed macaroni and cheese, and $10 food vouchers from Market Basket. We could also use juice, jelly, school snacks, and canned fruit. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Please join us for our next Faith and Friendship on Friday, February 10th. All members of the community are invited to attend. We will begin at 6:00pm with a potluck dinner, followed by our speaker at 6:45pm. If you choose to just come for the speaker, please arrive by 6:45. We will again have Kid’s Corner.
Please sign up for potluck and Kid’s Corner at the main entrance.
Last Sunday our youth group enjoyed an afternoon of ice skating at the Aleixo rink in Taunton. The students were then transported from the rink back to St. Ann’s where they participated in the 5:00 Mass as Greeters, Collectors, and Gift Bearers.
Thank you to our youth group advisor Michelle Uzzo for organizing these events.
As you know, we believe a parish to be a family of believers, and as such we have responsibilities to each other. The most important is to pray for one another. We now have a parish necrology – a listing of the anniversaries of those parish members who have gone before us – so we ask that you keep these folks in your prayers, particularly on the anniversary of their death. We extend prayerful congratulations to:
Kieriana Sophia O’Neill
daughter of Patrick and Nicole O’Neill
who was baptized and welcomed into our faith community during the month of January.
Some folks have asked why the votive candles have not reappeared after Easter. The reason is that on two occasions just before Holy Week, two of the glass containers of the candles popped, one resulting in the flame and a part of the candle falling on the floor. I happened to be in the Church both times when it happened (thank God), so there was no resulting damage. To make sure that does not happen again, we are checking into new containers that will not fail. As soon as we get them, the candles will reappear. Fr. Michael

Examining the New English Translation of the Mass
Why a new translation? Which prayers are changing? How will it affect our celebration of the Mass?
A video presentation explaining the changes to the Mass, given by Rev. Msgr. Stephen J. Avila, director of the Office for Worship of the Fall River Diocese and the Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Mansfield, is available for viewing on Youtube in a five-part series. Links to the video are here:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
The Vatican has approved a new Roman Missal which is the book that is used at Mass. This project has been in the works for many years. The new translation from the Latin more closely follows the true meaning of the Latin text.
This will impact some of the words that the priest uses as well as some of the response of the people. It will go into effect on the First Sunday of Advent on November 27th. The entire text can be read online or downloaded from here or from here.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has a channel on Youtube with several videos discussing the new Roman Missal and the upcoming changes here.

General Information and Announcements
In order to serve as a Godparent or sponsor, you must be a confirmed Catholic, at least 16 years old, registered in a parish and practicing your faith by weekly participation at Mass. If you are married your marriage must be recognized as valid by the Church. If you have any questions about this, see either Fr. Michael or Deacon Joe.
We want to keep in touch with our parishioners. It is important to let us know when one becomes homebound or enters a nursing home or long-term care so that we can touch base and see if they would like to receive Holy Communion.
Please help keep us informed of these changes.

The Sunday Mass is now airing on ABC Family Channel from 6:30am to 7:00am each Sunday morning.
The Sunday Mass is produced by the Passionist Fathers and Brothers of New York City and is available on DirecTV (channel 311), DishTV (channel 180) and Comcast Cable (channel 26/HD 826). To early for you? Tivo it or watch it online at www.TheSundayMass.org.
The Office for Child Protection would like to remind those in ministry with our children to maintain appropriate boundaries at all times. Meeting alone in isolated areas, e-mailing or calling too much, being involved in too many of the minor’s activities, showing favoritism or giving special gifts and communicating with our youth over social networking sites such as MySpace and Face Book, violates appropriate boundaries in our relationships with young people.
If you would like more information about what types of interactions are inappropriate, please call Debora Jones at 508-674-4681.
